Updates from November/December 2010

Elena was in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.

Elena wowed audiences performing Handel’s Messiah with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Conducted by Roy Goodman, and featuring the Melbourne Symphony Chorale. The Australian Newspaper’s Eamonn Kelly wrote, “…Soprano Elena Xanthoudakis offered the most sophisticated vocal expression, pairing her easy technique and bell tone with a deeply musical treatment of phrasing, dissonances and suspensions.”

Earlier in the month, Elena joined ‘Pinchgut Opera’ in Sydney for a production of Haydn’s L’anima del Filosofo – Orpheus and Euridice. Pinchgut Opera are a chamber company who perform in the excellent acoustic of the Sydney Recital Hall – AngelPlace. Pinchgut are renowned in Australia for presenting fully staged productions of early and classical operas with period instruments and receive high praise for their musicianship and interpretation under the baton of Anthony Walker and Erin Helyard on harpsichord continuo. Pinchgut’s team take extreme pride in their work and Sydney audiences await their annual creations each year with much anticipation. This year’s production was no exception, and Elena thrilled audiences performing the dual roles of’Euridice’, and the spirit ‘Genio.’

“Soprano Elena Xanthoudakis triumphantly performed the twin roles of Eurydice and the sibyl. Her Eurydice was both feisty and vulnerable, revealing her as a singer with considerable acting gifts.” Murray Black, The Australian, December 2010.

PINCHGUT LIVE – A recording of Haydn’s ‘L’anima del Filosofo’ will be for sale on Pinchgut’s own CD label later on in the year. Please look back here for future release dates.
